Another month in Austin. It’s been so nice to wind down summer out of the extreme heat. Lots of swimming in Barton Springs Pool. Lots of friends and fun, too.
My friend Neville got married. I met the co-founder of Cloudflare. I was pitched on stage to 400+ single women. And more. See my favorite photos below.
This is a monthly recap of my life. See more of my past monthly recaps here.
Favorite Photos
Each month I take hundreds of photos. I’ve put my favorites throughout this article. Here are a few that didn’t fit in their sections below.
Neville’s Wedding
I had this wild wedding experience leading a parade to celebrate one of my best friends, Neville Medhora.
We had bright costumes, a drummer, and even a white horse trailing behind us as we danced through downtown, blasting music from giant speakers with about 100 people in tow.
Neville had confidently announced two years ago that he’d get married in 2024, and we all thought he was a bit nuts. But he put himself out there, found his bride Rekha, and after a year of dating, we were finally on their big day.
I’ll never forget helping him hop off that horse and racing into the hotel while everyone cheered and the drummer kept the vibe going. It was such a fun way to kick off their beautiful Indian wedding.
Friend Hangouts
Sam Parr and Sara Parr visited Austin and I got to spend a little bit of time with them and their baby girl.
I picked up Bryce Roberts at the airport and spent an afternoon with him swimming at Barton Springs pool and eating hamburgers. He’s a smart guy, and this was another great example of why I pick people up at airports.
I spent an afternoon with my high school buddy Greg Case. I have known him for 20 years and it was so fun to see him again and show him around my town.
I did an interview with a high-end escort and I’m still thinking about how I’m going to write about it. The interview left me with a lot of questions- like how exactly do I write about this? But I hope to make it a good article profile like my other ones. No photo here yet.
Plus a bunch more. I saw a lot of friends and I didn’t always take selfies together, which I apologize for. A few of my favorite photos below.
Events I Attended
I’m still attending a lot of events, and not yet back to hosting my own. These are a few of my favorites from the month.
Pitch a Friend Dating Event
This event was wild. My friend Courtney made a slideshow to pitch me to hundreds of women on stage at a really cool singles event. It was a little bit embarrassing but so flattering to hear all the nice things she said about me, and I got a whole bunch of new followers and DMs.
The format of the event is pretty cool – they pick 10 people to present their friends, to help people make matches in a new way. My friend John runs this event in Austin and he was shocked that so many hundreds of people showed up and wanted to share. Really a neat event. And a special memory that I will not forget.
ATX Newsletter Creators Meetup
Shout out to the guy who organized this. Cool to meet so many people. My friend Trevor was visiting from Thailand and I think he was very impressed at how much of a creator community is here in Austin. That is something that I take for granted, but I bet if you don’t live in a big city it would be shocking to see firsthand. I think there were 40 different people here who all have different newsletters about different topics.
We need to encourage and celebrate people who host these types of events. You can make the community that you want to have, so you should consider hosting your own one of these in your town.
Tiny Talks
Tiny Talks continues to be one of my favorite events here in Austin, Texas. My friend Jon Cooper is putting a lot of money, time, and effort into gathering the best speakers with high production quality to tell 5-minute stories about their lives. He does such a good job with this, and I highly recommend the event to anyone here in Austin, Texas.
Cloudflare in Austin
One of my favorite tech companies, Cloudflare, had an event as part of their Birthday Week. I got to meet and chat with Michelle Zatlyn, their co-founder and President and COO. I also got to meet Kenton Varda, the guy who originally programmed Cloudflare Workers.

Other Notes
- I had a lot of date nights, but I don’t plan to talk about that situation publicly for a while. I miss writing about my dating life in public but I’m taking a break on it with this one.
- I had to take my Tesla to the service center for the first time in four years in order to replace the 12-volt battery. They fixed it in 30 minutes and it was still under warranty! I love this car. If you haven’t read it yet, read this article I wrote 4 years ago when I first bought my car: I Finally Bought a Tesla and These 8 Things Surprised Me.
- I ran a training session for Bigger Pockets, and then wrote this article with all of the lessons that I shared. This feels like one of my most value-packed articles that I’m sure nobody would read. But this is the type of thing that certain companies pay me thousands of dollars to teach their staff.
- I have been doing a lot of co-working at the Kollective gyms here in Austin, Texas. I think I do better when I get out of my apartment and can be in a space with other people and where I can do a little bit of physical activity sometimes. The coworking is best at their North location, but the South one is closer to my home.
- I’ve started to tour some houses here in Austin, TX with the plan to maybe buy or rent something soon. It’s funny, I moved into my current apartment three years ago. I’m not sure how long I thought I’d stay. I probably won’t leave and I’ll keep this lease as long as I can, but I think it might be nice to have a larger space soon.
Conclusion
The night of Neville’s wedding had me feeling all lovey-dovey. It was great to see my friend get married. Seems like that’s the next big thing. I’m happy for him.
Now I’m preparing for a big conference in October that is being hosted in Cancun. I’ll be the Master of Ceremonies and help with a bunch of networking events there.
Every month I write an introduction and a conclusion. It’s hard to think, like, specifically what this month taught me. For October I’m going to try to keep track of lessons learned. I’ll try to do a better job of tracking that and other notes.
