Email Octopus vs. ConvertKit: Best Email Marketing Platforms

Last updated: March 27, 2024

Email marketing is an essential part of any successful online business or organization.

It allows you to reach out to your audience, keep them engaged, and ultimately drive more conversions.

However, with so many email marketing tools available on the market, it can be challenging to determine which one is the best fit for your needs.

In this article, I will compare two popular email marketing tools, Email Octopus and ConvertKit, to help you make an informed decision.

Email Octopus

Email Octopus is an email marketing platform that offers an affordable way to send email campaigns.

It integrates with a variety of popular applications such as WordPress, Shopify, and Zapier, making it a versatile tool for businesses of all sizes.

It also provides users with easy-to-use email templates, autoresponders, and segmentation options to help personalize their email campaigns.

ConvertKit

ConvertKit is an email marketing platform designed specifically for creators, bloggers, and online businesses. It is what I use for my Friends Newsletter.

It offers a suite of features such as email automation, landing page creation, and customizable opt-in forms to help users build their email list and convert subscribers into customers.

Additionally, ConvertKit’s visual automation builder makes it easy to create complex automation workflows without needing to know how to code. This is a fairly advanced thing that most basic creators (like myself) might not need.

Pricing Comparison

Email Octopus offers a free plan for users with up to 2500 subscribers, with paid plans starting at $20 per month for 10,000 subscribers which is very affordable.

ConvertKit offers a free plan for users with up to 1000 subscribers, with paid plans starting at $29 per month for up to 1000 subscribers. When you get up to 10,000 subscribers, the monthly rate is $119. That is a bit expensive for new users.

Ease of Use

Email Octopus is pretty easy to use. It has a simple and intuitive interface that makes it easy to create and send email campaigns. It also offers a variety of helpful resources, including tutorials and a knowledge base, to help users get started.

ConvertKit’s interface is also straightforward and easy to navigate. However, all the advanced features can be overwhelming for beginners. But the reason that I switched to ConvertKit is because they offer excellent support resources. They helped me transfer my list from MailChimp and edited all my WordPress code to help make that easy.

Feature Comparison

Email Octopus offers an impressive range of features for its price point, including:

  • Email templates
  • Autoresponders
  • Segmentation
  • Landing page creation
  • Integrations with popular applications such as Zapier, Shopify, and Squarespace

ConvertKit, on the other hand, offers a more comprehensive set of features, including:

  • Email automation
  • Broadcasts A/B Testing
  • Landing page creation
  • Customizable opt-in forms
  • Visual Automation
  • Monetize your email list with paid products and subscriptions directly on ConvertKit

Customer Support

Both Email Octopus and ConvertKit offer excellent customer support, with a knowledge base, tutorials, and email support.

However, ConvertKit also provides live chat support, which is incredibly helpful for users who need immediate assistance. I’ve used their live chat a few times and always get an answer within a few minutes.

Conclusion

Email Octopus and ConvertKit are both excellent email marketing tools that offer different features and benefits.

I think that Email Octopus would be best for a first-time email newsletter. It is an affordable option that offers a good range of features.

ConvertKit, on the other hand, is a more comprehensive solution. You can use it to grow and monetize your list. They also offer the Creator Network now, which helps grow your subscriber list.

I am personally using ConvertKit and am happy with the service.
