Random Notes and What I Did Today
5 comments- Most all professionals in Mumbai work at least a half-day on Saturdays.
- Tomorrow (Wednesday) is India's Independence Day.
- A hiccup is called a "yadh karan." When you get the hiccups in India, it means that your mother misses you.
- My personal credit cards now charge a 3% fee for cash advances from ATMs in India. Hrmph. Any suggestions for no-surcharge international money transfers?
What I Did Today... Feeling much much better, but my appetite is still really low. Went out to a nuts-o locals only Nigerian restaurant with Akshay. I think we were the first non-Nigerians to ever show up, no joke. Then we walked around Chor Bazaar (Thieves Market) for a few hours, hung out at a girl-friends apartment, then went to a high school play about Animal Farm.

Hello Nick. Actually, some smaller local banks in the US have no ATM fees worldwide (and refund the fees charged by ATM's). Open a free account, dump some funds into it and you are ready to go. That's retrospect though.

I've been using my INGDirect checking account (which is an all-eletronic account, so no paper checks, but you can an ATM card). As far as I can tell, I've been charged no fees at all when withdrawing cash in Mumbai. It's really high-interest for a checking account too; 4% right now.
