Random Thursday Notes from Bagel Shop in Bandra

I am going to try and type a little something here whenever I get on the internet. Here are a few random notes.

Your first point reminded me of a question on AskMetafilter just a few days ago about why fruit internationally looks bad but tastes better than US fruit.

I love autorickshaws. Whizzing around cities in them, especially at night, was definitely one of my favorite experiences in India - the breeze in your hair and great people-watching!

Do you keep up with the local news when you travel? Did you hear about this, and if so, how was it treated in the news/print compared to CNN?

Blake

Hey Blake! The building collapse was pretty big news here, and I remembering seeing live footage from the wreckage on the TVs in my gym a few days ago.

Most of the recent media coverage has been about the survivors and those who escaped. Also, lots of stories about people being trapped and calling for help on their mobiles. I read one story that said the bottom floors were all jewelry shops, and one guy was caught trying to steal some gold from the rubble.

The blame is being placed on one of the jewelers, who made illegal modifications to his shop and probably cut out one of the support beams a few months ago.

Great post.
