Personal Notes, and How to Recognize a Stroke

One of my top three favorite websites on the internet is Cool Tools. This safety tip is brought to you from Michael Hawley in Cool Tools Tips #19.

How to Recognize a Stroke

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim quickly he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed and getting to the patient within 3 hours, which is tough. Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. But doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

1. Ask the individual to SMILE.
2. Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
3. Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE
(Coherently, ie: It is sunny out today)

If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call 9-1-1 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

Comments:
Retail outlets (I'll include Starbucks here) take insane amounts of cash. Scale is excellent :)

$2000 in 8 hours is only $4.16 a minute, and even a cheap lone customer will hand that much over. Most will probably spend more (my gf and I went to Starbucks the other week and spent about $28 between us) due to food, newspapers, etc.

Once they get that money machine set up, they can just stamp them all over the country.. and they have :)

It's the grocery stores that take the real insane money though. The UK's largest grocery store just announced profits of $2bn for just the last 6 months. I'm sure Wal*Mart is significantly higher still.
