• TED Talks on Odeo are really great. I think you should listen to a few. My favorite speech was Sir Ken Robinson on Education.
• I learned some things about Waffle House. Waitresses make about $3.15 per hour in base pay. Grill cooks make between $8 and $9 per hour. Waitresses are incentivized by tips from customers. Grill cooks get a bonus if their shift makes its sales goal.
• Sales goals at Waffle House for each shift of each day are calculated based upon an average from the previous two years. I have seen third shift sales goals as low as $100 (very rare). Usually the weekday third shift sales goal at the store I frequent ranks between $150 and $300.
• A friend who worked at a suburban Starbucks here in Georgia told me that his shift would often take in more than $2,000. That's a lot of expensive coffee in only eight hours.

How to Recognize a Stroke

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim quickly he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed and getting to the patient within 3 hours, which is tough. Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. But doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

1. Ask the individual to SMILE.
2. Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
3. Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE
(Coherently, ie: It is sunny out today)

If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call 9-1-1 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
