I don't get them for any specific reason that I've noticed, but I do get violent hiccups fairly often. It generally does seem to happen after I eat though - maybe eating too fast?

A semi-famous reader sent me this tip via email... "Hiccups happen when your lungs and diaphragm are not in sync. They end up working in opposite directions and that's why you get hiccups.
"My remedy: Pinch your leg right above your knee. Hold tight. It has something to do with nerves, but it works for me. Try it out."

Ever since I was a teen I get huccups when I eat a tuna salad sandwich. It happens almist all the time and it happens with the very first bite. Once I get them suppressed I can finish the tuna with no problem. This goes against all the reasons for "eating hiccups" I have seen.

There are other times when I get them while eating and again on the first bite but tuna does it almost every time. At the same time I seem to feel a little anxious.

I am not sure which comes first but I think it is the hiccups that cause the anxious feeling.
