0 commentsGreetings from a short holiday break in lovely Helen, Georgia. Thanks to my mother's keen travel research (and some lucky over-booking upgrades at the front desk), our small family of four is currently enjoying a HUGE log cabin lodge at Smithgall Woods in the Blueridge Mountains of North Georgia. This short retreat gives everybody ample time to enjoy our Christmas presents of books and DVDs. Our cabin is so rural that the computer has dial-up internet and Windows 95!
The cabin is entirely constructed of massive log pillars, with a grand room ceiling that peaks around twenty feet. Compare this to our usual holiday cabin fare of barren shelters that rarely have working electricity. A few of the notables:
- The kitchen is fully stocked with tons of snacks, but most impressive are the dinnerware. For example, we have many different glasses labeled for drinking particular things - White wine, Red wine, High ball, Brandy, Champagne, Rocks, Water and Cordial. My sister has taken to drinking her hot chocolate from the tiny Cordial crystal.
- A firewood cart and small path that leads from the outdoors to the fireplace, with swing doors.
- A full gym that overlooks Dukes Creek.
- Approximately 400 acres per bedroom of wilderness, supposedly populated with bears, foxes and lots of rainbow trout.
- My personal favorite - An industrial-sized coffee machine and accompanying china, evergreen in color with nice gold trim.
