I had spent thirty years in marketing, and there were certain broad standards you just didn't violate. One of them goes something like this:
When a client proves refractory,
Show a picture of his factory.
If the boss still moans and sighs,
Make his logo twice the size.
But only in the direst cases
Ever show the clients' faces.
Another quote from the ancient Iacocca biography. Besides, here's my reading list of late:
- Jack, Straight from the Gut by Jack Welch
- The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night great book, even if it's fiction
- The Motorcycle Diaries by Ernesto 'Che' Guevara, not as good as I had hoped
- Yoga For People Who Can't Be Bothered to Do It by Geoff Dyer, I just started this
- The Toyota Way an obvious book to follow Iacocca, haven't started it yet
- A Place So Foreign And Eight More by Cory Doctorow, GREAT. One of the stories in this book has really shaped the way that I think about life and how I plan to approach projects in the future. Much of the book is available, free, on Cory's website.
- Eastern Standard Tribe by Cory Doctorow, GREAT. My first entire eBook experience, and it was a success. (I downloaded it in HTML, F11'd the Firefox screen and CTRL ++'d the font size a few times for optimal eye comfort.)
